Companies looking for a wider audience offer free web hosting services to enhance their clientele. These companies earn their income by advertisements posted on their sites. Even though these sites do not charge any fee the down side is that free web hosting offers restricted services than paid hosting.

Hmm.. Free hosting is not always a good idea, because free hosting means loads of clients in short period of time and you need to have pretty nice budget to do free web hosting, but I agree that free hosting limits some services.

You are correct. I think free web hosting services are for beginners (people who are just learning the basics of running a small website or blog) not for business. I remember when I started out using free hosting services, they sure helped me understand how this stuff works.

True, I started from free web hosting to over 5 years ago. I think it's good start for your business/website if you don't have a budget or it's very small.

Good point. Free web hosting services are for people who have a personal website or blog. If you have a business, relying on free web hosting could mean issues in the future. Most shared web hosting services are only dollars a month, which is a small price to pay to ensure the safety of your website and that it's always accessible to your audience.

Free hosting, while a nice concept has many drawbacks, One being adds that you and your visitors will have to deal with. The second one is a lot of free hosting servers have been tied to spamming and phishing sites at least once or twice in the life of the server, this has horrible repercussions when it comes to your site and browser trust as a lot of free hosting shares an IP address and when one is hit it will tend to trickle down to the others. I've seen my fair share of legitimate sites get Google malicious warnings when trying to view them due to the past history of the server the site is on.
